Look for the good

Look for the good and look for the overwhelming evidence that life is amazing!

Despite today's challenges and tomorrow's obstacles, life is great. Hey, you and I woke up on the right side of the soil this morning!

Often when things start to crumble around us, we look for evidence that life is hard. While life will always pose challenges big and small, there are also ways in which we can redirect our focus to live happier right now.

Look for it.

If we’re consistently looking for evidence that supports our belief that life is hard, we will find it. We will also find that life is good if we’re looking for evidence of that too. In fact, when we look for the good, it snowballs, and we tend to see more and more of it. if this becomes habitual for us, we will find the good in the smallest of details like the birds singing, the gorgeous weather. We will have moments of deep gratitude in simple acts like having a shower with running water when so many on the planet do not have that luxury. We will recognize that we’ve gone through another day, week or year without a major accident or health emergency. We need to be attuned to the brilliance around us.

Soak it in.

Next, we need to capture it so it can really sink in. Many high performers report that they either verbalize their gratitude the minute they wake up or they have a morning gratitude journal practice. Often, we go through life in a hurried fashion and it’s not until we stop to reflect and let it soak in that we realize that life is pretty spectacular! The Five Minute Journal is an awesome place to start with this!

Celebrate it!

The third thing we can do is take a moment to breathe deeply and live in a state of gratitude. Recognize all the good that is happening. As my mentor Ed Mylett says, ask yourself “What if this is happening FOR me and not to me?” Celebrate that you’ve been given this opportunity to grow your resilience muscle, your courage, your strength. Celebrate that you are alive and get to enjoy this very moment!

I recognize that it can be very difficult in times of high anxiety and stress to look for it, soak it in and celebrate life. I’m sharing these ideas with you because I know that in my darkest moments, reverence for life and a belief that there is purpose has pulled me through.

It’s true what Tony Robbins says you cannot be grateful and worried at the same time so diligently redirect your thoughts to those that will serve you.
