How to level up in business & life

You and I don't springboard to success, we level up one day, one habit, one strategic move at a time.

In High Performance coaching we often get people to rate themselves one through ten, one being low and ten being off the charts high in terms of their performance in a certain area of life.

We look at energy, courage, productivity, influence, purpose and so on. We rate these areas of life because we know that what is measured gets improved. If we don’t know how we are performing in a certain area, then we don’t know if there’s a need or opportunity for growth. This is the reason why we need feedback at work and in relationships. Are we on track? We naturally need to know.

We need to be progressing in life; we need to know that there’s a next level for us to attain. Very few people are joyful when they’re in a state of stagnant contentment. Most of us need to feel a drive towards something new and exciting that is different from where we are today.

The challenge is that most people want to go from a level one to a level ten overnight and it just doesn’t work that way. We must earn each level of progress by doing new things that challenge us to raise our standards.

A coach and mentor reminded me that we need to make incremental moves for lasting change. You can’t go from a Ford Focus to a Ferrari overnight, unless you win the lottery but that’s a whole other story because your chances of losing it all within a few years is a fierce reality.

We don’t go from having a start up business with zero systems to being a completely process-driven organization. It takes time. It takes trial and error, and it begins with one strategic move. Perhaps it’s starting to coach your team members, then it’s developing quarterly reviews, then it’s designing KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators), then it’s following a full-blown system like EOS (Entrepreneur Operating System).

You and I must advance at each stage of the process because it builds character. We create the next level of who we could be, the best of ourselves, when we recognize that no time is wasted on a level. In fact, it’s a right of passage to get to the next level.

My mentor reminded me that while we take it one step at a time, we need to limit distractions and focus instead on inspiration. While he was speaking, I wrote in my journal “Who inspires me?” - great question! Who or what inspires you to level up? What is distracting you from focusing on your goals and growth? How would your life change if you limited distractions and went all in on your dreams? You will begin to level up, build confidence and expand your potential.

Our capacity to level up is exponential IF we are willing to take a micro step in the right direction, put all our efforts into that moment, graduate from it and move on. If you don’t see yourself living your dream life based on today’s reality, focus on your very first necessary step to inch you closer. Once you achieve that you will break down the first barrier that proves leveling up is not only possible but imperative to your success!
