4 Common Misconceptions About Success

I love studying people, watching people, being curious about how they act and react. When I first started studying Brendon Burchard’s work I was fascinated with the data and science behind what makes a High Performer… well a high performer!

I had some previous misconceptions about success. Let’s see if any of this holds true for you.

I thought that success was for people other than me.

I believed that there was an elite group of pre-determined people that had access to success while the rest of us didn’t. I have since learned that success is not reserved for the elite. We can all be successful if we’re working towards a goal. We can all be high achievers if we’re disciplined enough to focus on the habits that support success.

I thought that successful people had mentors in their corner cheering them on and building them up.

What I have learned is that the most successful and resilient people do not need or look for approval from others. They are confident in their abilities to achieve a goal and they have the grit and determination to push through without any outside support.

I thought that successful people lived an easy life and were somehow lucky.

What I have learned is that the most successful people are consistently in beast mode. They show up earlier, they grind for longer, they invest in their self-development, they make more calls, they work out longer and they push harder than their counterparts. Even the wealthiest people I watch are working harder today than they were when they had nothing! They will say that grinding now is hard but living in poverty was also hard so they would rather choose this hard. I agree!

I believed that successful people didn’t fail.

What I have learned is that the highest achievers take more risk, demonstrate more courage, fail more often and they learn from it. They don’t stay in defeat. They pick themselves up, dust off and push through. They don’t care who’s watching or who sees their mess. They are laser focused on their goals and dreams and they keep going no matter what!

What is something you initially thought about success and achievement that you no longer believe?
