Finish Strong

We’re in the homestretch for 2022 and for some this is exciting as you’re right on track with your goals. For others, you may feel a sense of frustration or even dread that the year is coming to an end, and you may miss the mark.

Now is the time to buckle down and get hyper-focused on the goals that matter most to you.

We’ve just had Canadian thanksgiving; Halloween is around the corner and the holiday parties will be starting up in November. This can be a dangerous time for the proverbial wheels to come off as we indulge here, compromise there, and the next thing we know it’s the end of the year and we’ve undone all our positive habits.

I want to encourage you to flip your thinking a little on a couple of concepts that I learned while studying to become a High-Performance Coach. One is that Christmas day is just that, it’s a day.  It’s not a week, month or quarter to celebrate so keep that in check so you feel proud of how you handle the next couple of months.

Set a clear vision for what you want December 31st to look like. How will your best-self show up between now and then? What do you look like, feel like, what have you accomplished?

Flip the script and decide to start your New Year TODAY! Say what? For most, this is a foreign concept; for the high achievers I have the privilege to work with, this is a critical step in taking back control when positive habits start to slip off. Who says you must wait until December 31st to craft your ideal life. Start today and get a jumpstart on 2023!

Once you know what you want, clearly define your next five moves. If it’s getting in incredible shape between now and December 31st, perhaps your next five moves are…

  1. Book an online trainer
  2. Purchase a tracking watch to monitor my progress
  3. Commit to meal preparation each Sunday to set myself up for the week
  4. Drink a gallon of water each day
  5. Walk for half an hour on my lunch break

Whatever your goal is, you must clearly define what you’re going to do next.

Often, we can slide into a yearend without much thought of adding vibrancy and novelty into our lives. I would encourage you to add a little spice to the next couple of months. Is there a new skill or course you could learn? Are there new recipes you can add to your life that will give you more energy and make meals exciting again?

Mapping out which daily habits will serve you is as equally important as defining habits that no longer serve you. For example, if I’m going to make the next 2 ½ months the most exciting and healthiest of the entire year, it means I’m going to eliminate the news, scrolling social media and vocalizing negativity.  This becomes a part of my training program, an essential “do not do” list of habits. Make a list of all of the things you will not do, in order to say yes to all of the right things that will support your success.

Lists, affirmations, and the best of intentions won’t get it done alone though. You also need relentless, persistent action that will ensure that you reach your goals so be sure to take action today!
